About IDEAL
(ISPAE Diabetes Education And Learning)
Diabetes self-management education (DSME) is the single most important determinant of glycemic control among children and adolescents with diabetes. There is a dearth of well-trained and certified diabetes educators in India, especially for type 1 diabetes, and in smaller hospitals and cities. Recognizing this need, the ISPAE (2021-2022) Executive has launched its flagship program, a first of its kind dedicated, virtual, certified course on diabetes education for childhood diabetes, named “ISPAE Diabetes Education And Learning (IDEAL) program”.
The Team
IDEAL has a nine-member Core Committee and a fantastic team of Faculty with expertise in childhood diabetes from all over India. Together the Core Committee and the Faculty, after a great many hours of brainstorming and revisions, created a comprehensive curriculum of 17 sessions, + 5 additional Review/ Feedback sessions, that covers every aspect of pediatric and adolescent diabetes, both basic and advanced.
Core Committee:
Our team of 54 faculty members hails from all over India.

Curriculum
The main objective of the IDEAL program is to create a pool of certified diabetes educators that will benefit our children and adolescents with diabetes. IDEAL is an online-only course, conducted over 3 months, with 2-hour-long sessions conducted 2 days every week. Each session is conducted by a 3 member team, and consists of two didactic lectures for 30 minutes each, followed by an hour-long interactive and case-based discussion and Q and A time. Trainees are given practical assignments after each module. The final certificate of successful completion of the course is awarded only after the trainee fulfils the exacting attendance requirements and exhibits reasonable competence in the practical assignments and the stringent Exit Examination.
